Governor Pat Quinn and Mayor Tim Davlin hosted a re-opening ceremony at the Dana-Thomas House at 1:30pm Thursday, April 23, 2009. Students from Lawrence Education Center were invited by Jan Grimes, Director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, to attend this special event. Because of the connection of the Lawrence Memorial Library, also designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Susan Lawrence Dana and the Dana-Thomas House have always been special to our school.
LEC students had the opportunity to personally meet Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin, Governor Pat Quinn, DTH Site Manager Don Hallmark, and “Susan Lawrence Dana” herself. After listening to the remarks made by many the many individuals responsible for assisting with the re-opening of Illinois’ Historic Sites, the students then went on a self-guided tour of the house.
It was a remarkable day in Illinois history, and the students at Lawrence Education Center were thankful to be a part of it.
