Dear LMS Families,
Between February 1 and March 31, teachers, parents, and students across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement. This survey was designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school by allowing you to share your thoughts about important elements of your child’s school.
The online Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be given to parents throughout Illinoisby UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois School Board of Education. The survey identifies “5 Essentials,” or indicators, that can lead to improved attendance and robust test score gains. The “5 Essentials” are: Effective Leadership, Collaborative Teaching, Involved Families, Supportive Environments, and Ambitious Instruction.
Schools strong on “5 Essentials” are 10 times more likely to improve student learning. Results will be sent to schools and districts in June and will be included in each school report card, released by ISBE at the end of October.
5Essentials Reports will display information such as the percent of parents agreeing that they feel comfortable raising concerns to their child’s teacher. Parent and student identities will be kept completely confidential. Responses will not be linked to any individual.
More importantly, your participation in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. A link to the survey has been added to our webpage for your convience. If you do not have access to a computer please contact LMS and we can set up a time for you to access the survey at LMS.
Students in grades 6-12 also will have the opportunity to take a version of the survey at school. If you prefer that your child not take the survey, you may complete the form next to this news article and return it to your child’s school.
