McClernand School, along with other Sangamon County schools, is collecting pennies and donations in their classrooms to bring an important piece of history back to Illinois. Proceeds from this penny drive will be used to purchase the historic document that certified that Abraham Lincoln could begin his career as a lawyer in Springfield, Illinois.
McClernand School will be holding a contest between K-2 classrooms and 3-5 classrooms to see who can raise the most pennies. The winning classrooms will win an extra recess and small treat.
Any amount of pennies will be accepted each day (either in coins or paper money). Checks can be made payable to the “Illinois Proud Penny Drive”.
Each day is focused on a fact about Abraham Lincoln and a corresponding amount of pennies to bring in. See the attached flyer for each day's information. Thank you for your help with our penny drive!
