United Way Day of Action
On Friday October 10th the staff and students from Springfield Learning Academy participated in the Fall edition of United Way's Day of Action. The worksite was Southwind Park where students assisted in the Winter preparation of the grounds. Activities ranged from removing seasonal plants to landscaping. In addition to the volunteer component, the excursion also proved to be very educational as the students encountered various small ecosystems which included small shrews and frogs. Students gained a deeper understanding of the functions of a park and the role of beautification. Following the activity the students enjoyed a community pep rally at Scheels. Both students and staff are already looking forward to the next United Way Day of Action in the Spring.
