New school record
Congratulations to David Emuze on a new indoor school record in the triple jump. David jumped 42’9 to edge former record holder Thayer Harrison’s mark of 42’8 in 2009. Earlier this year, David also recorded the best indoor long jump mark of 21’7.25 since 2008.
2017 Top Times
Congratulations to Josh White, Jason Hacker, Op Jones, and Anthony Fairlee on their performances on the track at the Illinois Prep Top Times Meet Saturday. Josh White shaved several tenths off his personal best 400 and finished in 4th place. The 4x400 team also took time off their season best and finished in 8th place.
Please return your washed uniform to the athletic office before the last day of school. Be sure to put it in a bag with your name on it so that I can identify who the uniform belonged to.
Spring Break practice schedule
Over Spring Break we will be offering 2 practices each day from Monday-Thursday. Morning practice is from 9:00-11:00, afternoon practice is from 4:00-6:00. Track members are to be to (at least) one practice each day. Track members are to meet on the track unless the weather is not cooperating. In that case, we will be meeting in the gym. If anyone is unable to make it due to traveling out of town, a written note from a parent must be given to a coach.
Our meet this Saturday (March 19th) starts at 1:30 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The bus leaves promptly at 10:00. We should be back around 8:00.
Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon
We have been asked to help out at the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon on April 2nd from 6:30-8:00 AM. This is a chance for our guys to come out and support the runners in this event. We will give out water, clean up the mess that will be made, and cheer on all of the participants. Students, parents, and other family members are welcome to come help out, we will need between 15-20. We do not have a track meet that day, so if you are going to be around, you will be expected to come help. Oh, and our program will get some money and you will get a t-shirt.
This week we have a meet in Jacksonville on Friday. The bus leaves at 2:00, the meet starts at 4:00. We will probably not get home until after 11:00. We typically do not stop on the way home from Jacksonville because it is only 30 minutes away, we usually just play it by ear. I would like to thank all the parents that I saw at our meet in Bloomington. This meet would be a great chance for parents to come see what track is all about.
First meet of the year
Our first meet of the year is coming up at Illinois Wesleyan in Normal, Illinois! After today, we only have 5 practice days! Saturday February 27th. The bus leaves from the Student parking lot at 7:00 AM. I am not 100% sure when it will return, but I estimate return time to be 6:00 PM. We will be stopping for dinner, I encourage your student athlete to pack a lunch or give them money for the concession stand. Any valuables can be given to the coaching staff to hold during the meet.
2016 track season

May 18th marked the first time in 11 years that the Section championship came back to Southeast for Men's track. The title was won on the slimmest of margins, 1 point over a fierce Decatur MacArthur team. State qualifiers include Tra Lewis in the HIgh Jump, Triple Jump, and 110 HIgh Hurdles; Jamal Sims in the 110 High Hurdles and the 300 Hurdles; and both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Charleston Invite 3/17
The 4x200 started us off with a best time of the year, and it continued into the 4x800 as the team of Finis, Diontrae, Devante, and Keonte ran a time nearly 15 seconds better than any other time this year. Hopes were high for this last regular indoor meet after these 2 races. Some guys got the experience they needed to take them to a higher level. Can't wait to get outdoor!
