The Guidance Office, in conjunction with the College Room, assists students in developing a plan for *Life after Southeast.* It is a great resource of information on post-secondary opportunities. The College Room is complete with information about colleges both in Illinois and out-of-state, technical schools, apprenticeships and the military. In the College Room, students can get help with the following and more! —Browse printed materials about colleges, technical schools, and the military —Customize college and scholarship searches on the Internet —Apply to college and technical schools —Request transcripts —Request application fee waivers (if eligible) —Research local scholarship opportunities —Apply for scholarships —Submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) —Register to take the ACT —Write a personal statement or essay for college admission —Meet with college admission representatives —Explore military options and meet with a recruiter Transcripts All college applications and most scholarship applications ask for an official transcript. Each senior receives three free transcripts for college applications. Each additional one costs $5.00. There is no charge for transcripts sent for scholarship applications! Application Fee Waivers Most college applications have an application fee that needs to be paid before the application is processed. Students on free or reduced lunch are eligible for an application fee waiver! Students may request one in the College Room or from their assistant principal. The Scholarship Board Posted in the College Room are updates of local and national scholarships. Students are encouraged to check the board every month for new scholarships and to confirm deadlines. Applications are available in the College Room. Postage is provided for students who have completed applications!! Admission Representatives Representatives from colleges and technical schools regularly visit Southeast to meet with interested students. This is an opportunity for students to speak with someone from the school directly. Students must get a pass in advance from the College Room. A calendar with the list of schools visiting is posted in the Guidance Office, the College Room, and the senior bulletin in the cafeteria. College Visits Juniors and seniors are given three *College Days* to visit college campuses. These are excused absences so they can explore or finalize their post-secondary options. Students pursuing the military may use *College Days* to schedule their ASVAB or MEPS. Before taking any *College Days,* students must first pick up a form in the College Room. Letters of Recommendation Colleges and scholarship committees frequently ask for letters of recommendation. Students should give their recommender at least two weeks notice to write the letter. There is a form in the College Room for students to complete to give to their recommender. The form allows the recommender to know as much as possible about the student. Who's in the College Room?
