The cross country team ended there season at the State meet on Saturday. The girls team finished in 13th place. Gabby Wood was the top finisher for SHS in 33rd place covering the 3miles in 18:16.
The boys team finished in 4th place, one place shy of a state trophy. Kyle Boughter was the top finisher for SHS in 18th place earning all-state honors.
Congratulations to both teams for a great season!
All cross country athletes need to turn in their equipment after school to Coach Devlin this week after school and pick up banquet information.
The SHS Photo Video club will be meeting this Wednesday, the 8th, right after school in the commons.

Over the weekend Latin Club conquered the other schools at the state Illinois Junior Classical League convention. Special thanks to the seniors Zoe Ryan, Kate James, Ben Yoder, Cole Davlin, and Ellie Herman for leading the senators to victory in the spirit category. First place finishers in academics and art include: Alec Breneman, Lindsey Gietl, Livya Phillips-Levin, Elizabeth Scherschel, Michaela Griffin, Jacks Hyde, Vanessa Randall, Cole Davlin, Ellie Herman, and Zoe Ryan. Great job to everyone who helped bring home the trophies!
Congratulations to the Freshmen and Sophomores from our Scholastic Bowl team who attended the Moline Frosh/Soph Invite on Saturday on a 1st place finish! The team dominated throughout the day. MVP, Aidan Fein averaged 75 points per game. Freshman, Maggie Sturm and Sophomore, Molly Harms both averaged 30 points per game. Well done!!!
Come out Tuesday to support the team for our only home event this year. Play begins at 5pm
Attention students interested in nursing: On Monday November 13th, Dr. Charlene Aaron, Chancellor of St. John’s College of Nursing, will be at SHS to present the different pathways and licensure to becoming a nurse during A and B lunches in room 150. Students can eat their lunch while she presents. See Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office for details!
Attention students interested in visiting with the Navy. Their lunch visit has changed from Tuesday, November 7th to Monday, November 13th. They will be in the commons during both lunch shifts.
The freshman class is selling spirit apparel. Class officers have order forms and there are order forms in the main office. Orders are due to Mrs. Devlin by November 17.
If you participated in the Science Department fundraiser, the Butter braids, cookies, and pizzas will be delivered this Tuesday, November 7th. You MUST pick them up after school on Tuesday. They will be in the commons after school. They must stay FROZEN. Butter braid pick up this Tuesday, after school, in the commons.
Attention seniors: Please make sure you are checking the November college visit calendar online or outside the post secondary office. If you plan to attend school in town, University of Illinois at Springfield, will be at SHS next Thursday, November 9th and Lincoln Land will be here on Wednesday, November 29th. SHS it’s time to Live United. United Way that is. United Way is a community organization that focuses on providing the basic needs to those less fortunate right here in Springfield. The organization also makes long term investments in education, financial stability and health for our community. . This Wednesday through Friday there will be a collection jar in the commons during both lunch shifts. Please stop by the table and drop in your change. We have 1,405 students at SHS so let’s unite to raise 1,405 dollars for the United Way.

Boys Basketball Tryouts start this week:
9th Graders - Monday, November 6th 4:30-6:30, Tuesday, November 7th 5:00-7:00, with possible call back for some on Wednesday November 8th 2:30-4:30.
10th-12th Graders - Monday, November 6th 6:30-9:00 and Tuesday, November 7th 6:45-9:00.
A current physical must be on file at school already or turned into Coach Crum before 3:30 on Monday, November 6th to be eligible to try out.
Attention students interested in an alternative to a four year college or university! Universal Technical Institute and Midwest Technical Institute will be presenting their schools and programs in November. UTI and MTI offer certifications in the mechanical trades like automotive and collision repair, health care, cosmetology, and commercial driving fields. Sign up outside the post secondary office or see Mrs. Lauer for details!
Please bring your new gently used coats, hats, or gloves to donate to the students in need at Dubois Elementary School. There will be a bin in front of the main office labeled "coat drive." Your Senior Superlatives' forms are due no later than November 14th. Give those forms to T'Mya Dumas, Natalie Berendt, Mackenzie Lehmann or Paige Woods. SENIORS- November 15th will be a senior service day (the 9th - 11th grade will be doing a practice SAT test). Seniors can volunteer, job shadow or visit colleges. The permission forms will be in guidance, room 104, and must be signed and returned by November 9th in order for the senior day to count as activity. Get your form, get it in!
Time is ticking away. Get your form and money turned in and Join the fun at the Annual Dodgeball Tournament Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Get your 6-8 person team together and sign up next week at lunch on Monday or Wednesday. The Booster’s representatives will be in the commons with the sign ups and they are also in the main office. All team shirts and outfits must be approved by Mr. Connolley or Dr. Leardi. It’s $30 per team to sign up and if you win there are cash prizes!

9th, 10th and 11th graders need to bring a calculator and pencils for the practice tests on November 15th. 9th and 10th graders should bring a book to read on that day as well.
Attention seniors: The Skelton scholarship has been added to the scholarship database. This is an annual award where applications will be accepted each year for a renewable opportunity. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, and involvement. Scholarships due by March 1st. See Mrs. Lauer for details!
