Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, March 1, 2018.

Attention Juniors: The Board of Education invites interested current high school juniors to apply to become the 2018-2019 Student School Board Member. One junior will be chosen to serve during their senior year. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 and can be found on our school’s homepage. Please see Mr. Williams if you are interested in applying. 

Attention all SOPHOMORE students- SHS has been invited to attend the Regional Office of Career and Technical Education Career Fair on Wednesday, March 14. We are limited to only 40 students. Please see Mr. Kyes for a field trip form. Remember- you must be passing all of your classes to be eligible to attend. 

PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA!! THURSDAY, THURSDAY, THURSDAY!! The Be A Senator Team will be selling hot, delicious Papa John's Pizza for only $2 per slice or you can buy an entire pizza for you and your friends for only $16!! Hurry down to the Commons during both lunch shifts before its gone! Thanks for supporting the Be A Senator Program! 

Attention seniors: Remember the deadline for the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln scholarships is today. Don’t forget to complete your scholarship applications before the deadline! Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office. 

Attention Seniors: The Delta Sigma Theta sorority has a scholarship available for African-American graduating seniors in Springfield, Decatur and the surrounding area. The scholarship will award ten $500.00 awards. The deadline is tomorrow. Applications are on the scholarship database or are available in the post secondary office. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer! 

Awards Banquet for the Wrestling Team will be tomorrow. Banquet starts at 6:00 p.m.

Wrestling please remember to turn in your gear to Coach Berger, he will be writing fines this week.

Students who park at the Pentecostal Church - please remember these few rules.  Park only at spots with no signs, park within 20 feet of the dumpster and to throw your trash away.

9th, 10th and 11th graders will test on April 10th, 2018.  All students must bring pencils, a calculator, and a photo ID.

GSA will be meeting today in room 370 after school.

Teachers and Student parking checks have begun.  If you do not have a sticker displayed you will be towed.  The tow bill will be your responsibility to pay and it could run up to $200 or more.

The Springfield Urban League and Project Ready presents the HBCU 2018 annual college tour. During Spring break! We will be traveling down south to visit Dillard University (New Orleans); Xavier University (New Orleans); Grambling State University (Louisiana); Southern A & M University (Louisiana).  There is a flyer on Ms. Mahr’s door and in the Guidance Office.

Avanti's is Coming!  Order your Avanti's Famous Original Gondola, only $7, or Avanti's Loaf of Bread, only $3, NOW from any German student, German Club student or from Herr Koeppel. Original Gondolas are Avanti's famous 16" sweeter bread with salami, ham, American cheese, and lettuce.  YUM!  Order yours now through Tuesday, March 13.  Delivery is Thursday, March 22, during both lunch shifts and until 4 pm.  Questions, contact Sabrena Campbell 691-5401.

PORTA Pool will offer the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course March 28 through  April 2. The pre-course swim and first class session will be on March 28, 5:00 - 9:00 PM. The remainder of the course will be on March 30 and 31 and April 2, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Participants must be 15 years old by April 2 and must attend all class sessions. Congratulations ro Rhiannon Roberts on winning the Josten’s Oldest Ring Contest. She brought in a ring from 1938!! Rhiannon will be receiving $100 off her Josten’s ring order.

The SHS girls track and field team opened their season at the Decatur Area Indoor Invitational on Wednesday. Top finishers for SHS were: Blessen Pratt 3rd in the Shot Put; Ozzy Erewele 1st in the 60m Dash and in the 400; Hannah Burnes 2nd in the 60m Hurdles; Varsha Iyer 1st in the 1600; and Ruth Edwards and Madison Ridley finished 3rd & 4th in the 3200. Nice job girls.
