Attention Juniors: The Board of Education invites interested current high school juniors to apply to become the 2018-2019 Student School Board Member. One junior will be chosen to serve during their senior year. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday and can be found on our school’s homepage. Please see Mr. Williams if you are interested in applying.
Attention all SOPHOMORE students- SHS has been invited to attend the Regional Office of Career and Technical Education Career Fair on Wednesday, March 14. We are limited to only 40 students. Please see Mr. Kyes for a field trip form. Remember- you must be passing all of your classes to be eligible to attend.
Students who park at the Pentecostal Church - please remember these few rules. Park only at spots with no signs, park within 20 feet of the dumpster and to throw your trash away. If you do not follow these rules you will be towed.
9th, 10th and 11th graders will test on April 10th, 2018. All students must bring pencils, a calculator, and a photo ID.
The Springfield Urban League and Project Ready presents the HBCU 2018 annual college tour. During Spring break! We will be traveling down south to visit Dillard University (New Orleans); Xavier University (New Orleans); Grambling State University (Louisiana); Southern A & M University (Louisiana). There is a flyer on Ms. Mahr’s door and in the Guidance Office.

PORTA Pool will offer the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course March 28 through April 2. The pre-course swim and first class session will be on March 28, 5:00 - 9:00 PM. The remainder of the course will be on March 30 and 31 and April 2, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Participants must be 15 years old by April 2 and must attend all class sessions. Junior AP Students-Do you need or want a job? If so, we want to hire you as a tutor here at Springfield High School at $11 per hour. You will need to be available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week that school is in session. Strong Math & Science skills are a must. Sign up in the Guidance Office. The SHS boys track and field team competed in the U-High Invite at Illinois State on Saturday. Top finishers for SHS were: Will Formea placed 4th in the 800m Run, Qa’Ron Hawkins placed 4th in the triple jump and Tyrone Treadwell placed 2nd in the triple jump. The boys next compete at the Charleston Invite on Saturday March 17th.
The SHS girls track team finished in 8th place at the Jacksonville Indoor invite on Friday. Top finishers for SHS were: Hannah Burnes placed 3rd in the 60m hurdles in a new indoor school record, and Ozzy Erewele placed 1st in the 60m dash and 200 meter dash. Both times established new indoor school records. Great efforts by all the girls!
Congratulations to the SHS Scholastic Bowl team for winning Regionals. Aidan Fein led the team with 27 toss ups. Sectionals will be in Macomb on Saturday.
InSession Show Choir received 3rd runner-up and Best Showchoir band in the Small group Division. Our next/final competition is next Saturday in Quincy at the Quincy High School Showchoir & Jazz Band showcase of Excellence. We perform at 1:15pm.
