Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, April 16, 2018.

Do you need help with tutoring in your AP classes? Then you can get help in the After-School Tutoring Program in Room 160 on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 PM.

Juniors or Seniors: If you are interested in attending any of the military academies, then you want to attend Service Academy Night, held Tuesday, April 24th at 7:00 pm at the Springfield Air National Guard, 183rd Wing, 3101 J. David Jones Parkway. If you plan to attend, you will need to RSVP via email, by April 20th, to Mike Gilmore. His email address is michael.gilmore@mail.house.gov

Attention Juniors and Seniors, Prom Guest forms are available in the guidance office. Make sure you and your guest bring it with you to the prom along with your photo ID”S. 

Prom is almost here! Take a walk through our Enchanted Forrest prom at the Bank of Springfield Center on April 28th! Please bring your student ID to the venue. Tickets will be sold today through April 27th in the Commons. Couples are $35 and singles are $25. Senior court voting will take place on the April 17th and 18th. Hope to see you there!

Did you hear that the city council has banned dancing and rock and roll music right here in our great school?  Come and see Footloose this weekend and support fellow SHS students as they defend the benefits of public dancing.

Springfield High School proudly presents Footloose: The Musical on Friday, April 20, Saturday, April 21, and Sunday April 22. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 PM and the Sunday matinee begins at 2 PM, all in Springfield High School Schnirring Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door and advance tickets are available in the SHS office or by calling 525-3100.

Extra, extra, read all about it!! The newspaper class is accepting applications for next year. If you are interested in writing, doing interviews, taking pictures and laying out, pick up your application from Ms Negele  in room 362. They must be returned by April 25th. You cannot be a part of the newspaper family without applying and being accepted. 

Congratulations to the Math department! All of their students were on time to class for 5th hour and received candy for Being Senators!! Keep up the good work! You never know when the Be A Senator team will strike next! Be on time to class every hour!!

The Lady Senator Softball team picked up 2 wins over the weekend in Champaign. In the second game, Lauren Cozadd, Kira Brown, and Jaden Long all had multiple hits, including a a 3 Run Home Run by Long! Keep it going ladies!

The SHS girls track and field team finished 2nd at the Lady Raider Invitational this weekend. Top finishers for SHS were: Sydney King 4th in discus; Ozzy Erewele 1st in the 100, 3rd in the 200, 3rd in long jump with a new school record; Hannah Burnes 2nd in the 100m hurdles; Lauren Ferguson 3rd in the 100m hurdles, 1st in the 300m hurdles. The 4x100 team of Hannah Burnes, Lauren Ferguson, Ta’Mya Dumas and Ozzy Erewele finished 2nd. Great job girls. 

The SHS boys track team placed 9th out of 21 teams at the Capital City Classic on Saturday. Ryan Waldinger placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles and Robert Williams won both the 110 Hurdles and the 300 Hurdles. The boys next compete at the Lanphier Invite on Saturday. 

Are you ready for peach fuzz? Introducing the first annual peach fuzz, a guys vs. guys volleyball tournament in the gym on Friday, May 11th. Get your team of 6 and sign up for $18 per team. Safety forms can be found in the main office and shirt orders are coming soon. Girls, be there to root on your guys. See you there!

The SHS Baseball Team put together their best game to date with an 11 to 3 win over the Crimsons of Jacksonville on Friday. Ben Hartl and Will Reiser led the way, as Hartl pitched a complete game allowing only 3 runs on 5 hits while Reiser paced the offense with 2 triples driving in 4. Hartl also had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Next up is a 2 game series with MacArthur at their place tomorrow and at Lanphier Park on Wednesday.
