Juniors and Seenyars - We will be drawing 10 SHS parking spots on Friday, October 5th. If you still want a spot, sign up in the main office before or after school and get your name on the drawing list. If your name is pulled, the parking sticker will cost $65.
ATTENTION PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE MEMBERS OF FCA! The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be having our first huddle meeting of the year Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 6:00-7:00 in the Cafeteria. We will be brainstorming activities and meeting times for the upcoming year… and having some pizza. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Lightfoot of Mr. Dyer.
Are you are a first generation college bound junior or senior? Unsure if college is for you? Interested in getting more information about different college options, basic services offered to students or help interpreting college expectations and requirements? If so, please see Mrs. Lauer in the guidance office. Eligible students may attend a presentation and tour through the College Prep Summit at Lincoln Land on November 16th.
Senior Photo Information - Seniors and early graduates are required to have their official picture taken by Grussenmeyer’s Photography. The photo must be taken by December 15, 2018. Grussenmeyer’s is located at 41 Pinehurst drive, 787-6688 and requires a $15 sitting fee with no pressure to make additional purchases. This year, we encourage all seniors to have their portrait taken at school. Grussenmeyer’s will be at SHS for senior pictures on Friday, October 26th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (no school for students that day). Seniors may also call Grussenmeyer’s at 787-6688 to arrange custom sittings or another time and date that works with their schedule.
Any junior or senior interested in being a High School Student Poll Worker for election day, please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application.
Attention Sophomore Class - The class of 2021 will be selling baked goods (rice krispy treats, cookies, and brownies) at tailgate tomorrow night. Please bring donations to Mrs. Devlin's room 121.
Juniors & Seniors interested in attending the Capital Area Education/College Fair at the State Fair-Orr Building on Wednesday, October 3rd will be receiving a permission slip in their English classes. If not, stop by the Guidance Office. Students will leave school at 11:57 pm or after 4th period. In order for this to be coded as an activity, students must have turned insSigned permission slips by Monday, October 1st, 3:30 pm-no exceptions. Students check in with their Guidance Dean at the Orr Building. STUDENTS MUST BE PASSING ALL CLASSES TO ATTEND.
The next Feminist Club meeting will be held after school until 4:00 in Ms. Moon’s room, room 364, on 10/4. All are welcome!
Football Spirit orders are in. You may pick up your order in Coach Gully’s room 124 during either lunch shift today. He will not be able to hand out orders after school so please come during lunch.
If you plan to bring a guest who is not a Springfield High School student to homecoming, you must pick up a guest form in the guidance office.
HBCU (Historically Black College & University) & State Schools Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe. Students 8th grade and up welcome.
The boys golf team placed third in yesterday’s Central State Eight conference tournament at Lincoln Greens. Zach Richmond shot a 76 and Adler Boatman a 79 as both made all conference. Jack Zerfas carded an 81, and Austen Floyd an 82 to round out the scoring for the Senators.
The girls swim team took second in a trip meet yesterday against Lincoln and Glenwood. Junior Katie Bilinsky took first in diving with a margin of over 80 points. Juniors Grace Anders and Rhiannon Roberts competed in the 200 yard freestyle. Freshmen Carlee Jones, Alexandra Bradley and Maddie Owczarzak, Sophomores Lili Tohme and Brooklyn Kosek, and Junior Grace Anders competed in the 50 yard freestyle, with Grace and Maddie taking 3rd and 4th, respectively. Senior Healy Funderburg took second overall in the 100 yard freestyle, and was only ONE TENTH of a second behind first place. Then she turned right around and swam the 500 yard freestyle and again secured second place! Sophomores Lili Tohme and Brooklyn Kosek, Juniors Lili Tohme and Delaynee O’Brian, and Senior Lara Faeseler all swam the 100 yard freestyle and swam personal bests. Freshman Carlee Jones and Sophomores Kayleigh Minder and Maddie Sievers swam the 100 yard backstroke with Kayleigh and Maddie placing 3rd and 4th, respectively. Freshman Alexandra Bradley, Junior Rhiannon Roberts and Senior Lara Faeseler all swam the 100 yard breastroke and swam season-best times. The 400 free relay on Grace Anders, Maddie Sievers, Kayleigh Minder, and Healy Funderburg placed third overall. Fantastic meet girls!
