Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, October 9, 2018

Tomorrow morning during first hour is the senior meeting. Jostens will be doing a cap and gown presentation and other vital information will be given. Seniors will be called down after the start of 1st hour.

Senior Photo Information - Seniors and early graduates are required to have their official picture taken by Grussenmeyer’s Photography.  The photo must be taken by December 15, 2018.  Grussenmeyer’s is located at 41 Pinehurst drive, 787-6688 and requires a $15 sitting fee with no pressure to make additional purchases.  This year, we encourage all seniors to have their portrait taken at school.  Grussenmeyer’s will be at SHS for senior pictures on Friday, October 26th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (no school for students that day) in the Auditorium.  Seniors may also call Grussenmeyer’s at 787-6688 to arrange custom sittings or another time and date that works with their schedule.

HBCU (Historically Black College & University) & State Schools Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe.  Students 8th grade and up welcome.

The SHS Photo Video club's writing workshop is scheduled for tomorrow right after school in the commons.

Maria Furtado, the Executive Director of the organization “Colleges that Change Lives” will be presenting at SHS tomorrow at 6:30 pm in the commons. Maria will be speaking about college rankings, popular misperceptions about college admissions, the benefits of liberal arts education and will provide tips for students and parents on managing the college search. The presentation is open to students and parents. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer or Mr. Kramer. 

Picture Day is October 17th.

Yearbooks are now on sale at $60 a copy; in January, the cost is $70.  Order yours now in room 254.

Atención Spanish Club! We will be watching the movie “Coco” in room 260 after school on Thursday. All Spanish Club members are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!

There will be an informational meeting about SJA and Model UN next Thursday after school in Mr. Glenn’s room 314.  We will be discussing future meeting times, events, and student positions. All are welcome!!

The boys golf team failed to advance out of the Lincoln sectional, shooting a 333 team score and finishing 6th. However, senior Zach Richmond won a 4 man sudden death playoff and advances to this weekend’s State tournament at ISU. Congratulations Zach.

The girls swim team placed second in a triangular meet Saturday against SHG and Jacksonville. Senior Healy Funderburg won both the 500 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly. Junior Katie Bilinksky placed first in diving. Junior Grace Anders placed third in the 200 yard freestyle. Sophomore Lili Tohme and senior Lara Faeseler both swam personal records in the 50 yard freestyle. Freshman Alexandra Bradley placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke, and Maddie Owczarzak swam a new personal record in the 100 yard backstroke. The 400 freestyle relay consisting of Grace Anders, Maddie Sievers, Rhiannon Roberts and Healy Funderburg placed second overall. The girls swim against Bloomington this Thursday at 4pm at Eisenhower! 

The cross country team competed at the Metamora Invite on Saturday.  The girls varsity team finished 12 out of 21 teams, Ruth Edwards was the top finisher for SHS.  In the girls F/S race, Aurora Barnes was the top placer for SHS.  The boys varsity team finished 9th out of 24 teams, Ryan Waldinger was the top finisher for SHS.  The Boys F/S team finished 2nd out 20 teams, Anthony Peralta was the top finisher for SHS.

Students, please stop by 108 if you still haven’t picked up your bus pass from August or September.

Seniors (SEEN-yars) - pick up your senior service day permission form in the guidance office for October 24th.  9th, 10th, and 11th grade will be mock testing on the 24th.  For seniors to have the day off of school, you must return the yellow, signed, parent permission slip by Monday, October 22nd at 3:30 p.m., no exceptions. 

The boys soccer team improved to 7-1 in the CS8 with a 2 to 1 victory over previously unbeaten Normal UHigh. This moved the Senators into first place in the CS8. The Senators got goals from Laith Abdullh and Wolf Brethorst, but the victory was a total team effort. Great job Boys!!

The varsity volleyball team went 3-2 in the Quincy volleyball tournament this weekend.

Please congratulate the women’s tennis team for a job well done at the conference championship.  They finished tied for 4th place with SHG and all players played exceptionally well.  Most notably is the 3rd place finish in the singles bracket by Maya Hofmann.  Please wish them good luck as they make their way to Belville, IL this weekend for their sectionals meet.
