There are three ways to access the SHS athletic schedules and information.  On the SHS page located on the right hand side there is a blurb titled Athletic Schedules and Information click on this and it will take your there;  you may also go to the athletic page and click on the sentence titled Athletic Schedules and Information; or your may go the following link  https://springfieldhighschoolil.bigteams.com

PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA!! Today Be A Senator will be selling hot, delicious Papa John's Pizza during both lunch shifts in the Commons. For only $2 a slice, you can enjoy a slice of pepperoni, cheese, or sausage. Come and get it before its gone!!! Thank you for supporting Be A Senator!

Did you forget to order a yearbook last year?  Or even the year before? Or the year before?  Yearbook staff has past yearbooks on sale all semester!  See Ms. Moon in room 364 if you would like to purchase one!  

Seniors, in order to get your picture in the yearbook, you have two choices:  1) signing up through Kari Bedford photography by using the blue box on the SHS homepage OR 2)getting your picture taken on Friday first hour in the auditorium. No outside photos will be used in the yearbook.

Picture day is tomorrow, you may pick up the picture packets in room 364.  Follow the schedule posted in the hallways.

Signup is now available for the October 16th PSAT/NMSQT which is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  The due date to sign up is September 13th.  Please sign up in the Guidance Office if you are interested.  The cost of this test is $18.

The homecoming dance is September 21st at SHS. It’s going to be awesome.  If you are bringing a guest from another school, you must get the blue guest form from the guidance office and have all information filled out correctly.  ALL GUESTS MUST BRING A PHOTO ID WITH THEM. 

If you are thinking about taking the October Saturday SAT, and you might be eligible for a fee waiver, please sign up ASAP with Mr. Kramer.

Atención! All are welcome to join Spanish Club for as little as $5. Spanish Club members can enjoy fun activities like the back to school fiesta, watching movies in Spanish, the International Dinner, paintball, capture the flag, bowling, dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and more!  For information on joining, please see Señor Reichert, Señora Armstrong, or Señora Hopper.

Hey Springfield High!  Have you ever wanted to learn sign language?  Well … now is your chance.  We will have our first Sign Language Club meeting Monday, September 9th in room 364 from 3:30-4:30. Hope to see you there.  If you have any questions see Mrs. Davis in room 363 or Terrence Cypress

The Illinois Department of Transportation has been helping students explore the different aspects of engineering by having a“First Nighter” scheduled for Wednesday – September 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 at the IDOT Central Office – 2300 South Dirksen Parkway in Springfield.  It will be an opportunity for students, their parents, and teaching professionals to ask questions and for the students to sign up for the Engineering Exploring Program.  The participation fee for new Explorers is $60.00 (payable September 18th), which will cover registration fees and the Engineering Explorers Post 6 T-shirt.  See Leardi if you have questions.

Rochester High is hosting a STEM fair on September 11th at 6:00 p.m.  This event is free for families and showcases STEM opportunities and features drones, robots, environmental science and computer programming.  To register, search RochesterSTEMFair on google or Facebook.

Are you a fan of Stranger Things?  Have you ever wanted to fight a Demogorgon?  If so, consider joining D&D Club, meeting from 3:30-5:00 Friday, September 6th in the library.  See Mr. Havener with questions.

This is a reminder that all students need a pass to enter the library during lunch shifts.  Please see Mr. Havener during passing periods or at the start of lunch to pick one up. Food and drinks are not allowed in the library.

Students who are current members of Be A Senator and were unable to attend the meeting this week, please see Mr. Kyes for information regarding BAS this school year.  If you are interested in joining Be A Senator, please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application. Everyone is welcome to join!

Avanti's is Coming!  Order your Avanti's Famous Original Gondola, only $7, or Avanti's Loaf of Bread, only $3, NOW from any German student, German Club student or from Herr Koeppel.  Original Gondolas are Avanti's famous 16" sweeter bread with salami, ham, American cheese, and lettuce.  YUM!  Order yours now through Tuesday, September 17.  Delivery is Thursday, September 26, during both lunch shifts and until 4 pm.  Questions, contact Sabrena Campbell 691-5401.

Calling all SHS actors and actresses! Fall Play auditions are quickly approaching. Auditions for this year’s show, The Outsiders, will be held on September 16th in the SHS auditorium after school. The show will be November 22-24. Please prepare a 30 second monologue and be ready to possibly do a cold read. Make sure to sign up on Mrs. Gerdes’s or Mrs. Eaton’s webpage! Hey NFL fans please join the SHS Student Counsel at the Route 66 Drive In Movie to watch the Chicago Bears play the Green Bay Packers on the big screen this tonight. The event is hosted by the Central Illinois Customer Service Association. Gate opens at 5:00 pm and kickoff is 7:20. The cost is $20 per car and tailgating and bbq grills are allowed!

Do you like to create art and give back to the community?  Come to room 233 today after school for an informational meeting about art club.  We will be meeting from 3:30-4

The BAS Candy Table has returned! Come and redeem your Senator Bucks in the Commons during your lunch shift. 

Students, your bus passes from SMTD are in 108. Please stop by on lunch or after school to pick them up.

The girl’s golf team defeated Morton by a score of 172 to 187 in a match at the Lincoln Elks golf course.  Sophomore Kayla Adkins earned medalist honors with a 3 over par 39.  Seniors Jackie Romer and Kylie Fair, and freshman Katie Chen rounded out the scoring for the Senators.  SHS travels to ISU today for the U-High Invitational.  Good luck ladies.

It’s time for the varsity football team to compete for the city title again. SHS has held the Superintendents Cup for 3 straight years and won the city crown too last season. 1st up for the football team this year is Southeast on Friday at Memorial Stadium at 7pm. Come out and cheer on the team.

Wanting to work on your acting techniques? Come to the next drama club meeting which will be held on Monday, September 9. We will be working on characterization with an appearance of Illinois College professor Aasne Daniels! Snacks will be provided and everyone is welcome!

The boys soccer team remained undefeated with a 10-0 victory over Southeast. Ben Huston, Wolf Brethorst, Levi Carrell, Ian DeAssuncao, Ian Lamsargis, Parker Johnson, Aiden Fein and Brandon Fine all had goals for the Senators. Collin Taylor, Alec Breneman and Xander Eberding combined for the shut out.

Game of the week this week is the home football game on Friday night the 6th. It’s military appreciation night so the theme is USA and military appreciation.

Juniors and Seniors - Augustana will be here this afternoon for a school visit, if you are interested, sign up outside Kramer's office at 153A.
