We are looking for new parents to join the SHS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and we invite current SHS parents and parents of current 8th graders attending SHS in Fall 2018 to attend our upcoming meetings:
March 27 at 7pm
April 24 at 7pm
May 22 at 7pm
The PTO’s mission is to support teaching and learning at Springfield High School. The PTO is separate from the Booster Club which supports student clubs and activities.
Supporting teaching and learning is done through a handful of programs funded every year. The PTO organizes and funds the following events: Schlotto reward redemption once a week (students are recognized by teachers and administrators for doing something positive at school), Welcome Teacher Lunch, End of Year Teacher Lunch, Honor Roll breakfast, National Honor Society Night, and Senior Recognition/Awards Night. The PTO also provides funding for Freshman Forward, snacks for testing days, Schlotto prizes, an annual scholarship to a senior, and teacher grants that enable teachers and departments to supplement their curriculum with supplies, books, software, and other classroom and teaching needs. Most of our money comes from dues and donations received when the district dues are paid and parents opt to donate. We help take tickets at the home football games as an annual fundraiser, and we have also organized two additional fundraisers to raise money specifically for teacher grants.
Please consider attending our last three meetings of the school year. We would love to have you come to at least one of these meetings and learn how to get involved.
