2011 - 2012
5/3/12
We had another great day! Most of our nonfiction books are finished and they look amazing. Look for an invitation to our "Information Exchange" next week. We haven't yet determined the date or time... Wednesday folders went home today! Sorry...
Morning Meeting: We reviewed the spelling pattern for the week (change the final y to an i when adding a suffix IF there is a consonant right in front of the y). Then we played "Sparkle" to practice our words.
Writing Workshop: We reviewed the grading rubric for the nonfiction books and learned how to complete the "Meet the Author" page. This came home to be completed if your child didn't finish in class. Tomorrow is the last day to work on the books.
Reading Workshop: We reread some pages of Pepita Talks Twice and practiced summarizing. We learned it's hard not to retell EVERYTHING and just pick out the important information.
Math: I introduced the long division algorithm (paper and pencil steps). The saying Does McDonald' Serve Burgers helps us remember the steps (Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down). We will continue this lesson tomorrow. Some of the kids really seem to get it already!
We got to watch Mrs. St. Aubin's class perform the play "Peter and the Wolf." They did a great job!
Don't forget...
1. Two Speller's Choice activities due tomorrow.
2. Spelling and vocabulary tests tomorrow.
3. Donations for Miss Getz's gift are still being accepted.
4. Letters to Miss Getz need to be turned in ASAP!
5. Come see my daughter, Kailey, as Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie at Springfield High this weekend! Shows Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2!
I won't be at school tomorrow so there won't be a Friday email. The kids should bring home Fridge Facts tomorrow so they can get a head start on next week's Speller's Choice!
Have a great weekend!
