2011 - 2012

We had a great day!
This morning we skipped our morning meeting because most of the class needed to review making and interpreting plot graphs. We met as a group to redo the homework from the other night. Next we went to PE. After PE, we took our end of quarter reading extended response test. We had to write whether or not we thought Cao Chong (the main character in the story Weighing the Elephant would make a good king and support our answer with text examples and explanations. Some of the answers were amazing! A year of reading and thinking deeply was evident. These will be graded and returned by next Wednesday. In math, we practiced drawing conclusions from various kinds of graphs (plot graphs, pictographs and bar graphs). Two pages in the textbook were assigned for homework. The test on Topic 20 is tomorrow!
After lunch, we continued with math. Then we participated in the third grade "Information Exchange!" I am sorry that I forgot to remind everyone about this event but a note did go home in last week's Wednesday folder inviting families to join us. Anyway... we hosted the other third grade classrooms and several parents. We shared our nonfiction research books and Keynote slide show. I was impressed with the way the kids presented their own research and learned from others as they looked at their peers' work.
Tonight's Reading Week challenge is to find an interesting/unique place to read and then write about, draw or photograph yourself reading there. We need 100% participation so we can win this last challenge! We will have a school-wide reading celebration tomorrow afternoon with an outside "read in!"
Get out and enjoy this incredible afternoon... with a good book in hand!
