Today's Activity/7th Grade: Students continued planning their narrative essays today by brainstorming which details to include, such as thoughts and feelings and sensory details. We also began discussing the introduction, including the hook, which grabs our audience's attention right from the start. Students worked in teams to write hooks together, then began writing a hook for their own narrative.
Today's Activity/8th Grade: Today we learned about paraphrasing, a skill that will be essential during history fair research. We viewed a BrainPOP and took Cornell notes about paraphrasing and plagiarism, then practiced paraphrasing using the lyrics from a song.
Reminder: Return signed grade report tomorrow. This is the last day to turn these in for credit since there is no school on Friday (teacher inservice).
Parents as Partners: Please review this week's grade report with your child, if you have not already done so. Midterm reports will be submitted next week already! Sign and return grade report tomorrow. Also, please ask your seventh graders to share their narrative hook. Please ask your eighth graders to describe what s/he learned about paraphrasing today.
