Our New Year's Celebration is coming up quickly! We need you to sign up today to help with this fun event. We still need people to help with Chinese arts and crafts (absolutely NO artistic talent required—our very capable middle school students will be there to help). Please use the link above to sign up through our Sign Up Genius account. If you have trouble figuring it out, just email me and I can sign you up.

Order forms have been sent home and are also attached here. It will take place on February 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening. We will have live entertainment and many activities for the students. The students will also be performing Chinese folk songs. Each class from grades 1 to 5 will be singing. The middle school band will perform a selection of Chinese songs. Internationally renowned storyteller Dan Keding will be sharing stories with us as well. Some of the other activities will be Chinese calligraphy, Chinese chess, Chinese riddle competition, Beijing opera mask painting, as well as Chinese landscape painting and fan and lantern designing. The students will spend a good deal of time in class helping to get ready for the New Year’s, both by learning their songs and also helping to make decorations for the school. We will also need some parent volunteers to help with activities. There will be some requests later for volunteers but if you already know you’d like to help, please contact me (Mai Laoshi) Mark your calendars for February 15th and get ready for some Chinese New Year’s fun!
The students used this list that's attached to choose their Chinese names/nicknames for class. Feel free to use the list to choose your own nickname!!! Choose one term from column one, another term from column two and then combine them together to form your very own Zhongguo waihao!!!

We have several students new to Iles this year. Please use the review list posted on this page to the left to help your child get caught up in Chinese. The review list has a link that will take you to an online dictionary that is able to demonstrate the correct pronunciation for you. Press on the sound icon to hear the word pronounced. I will be sending more information home to help you help your child learn their Chinese.
