2 days ago Today everyone spent some time analyzing some of the math that can be found using baseball. We have been studying right triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem. On Wednesday, Periods 2 and 3 had determined the distance from home to second base by using this concept. We also discussed other distances that we could find using this theorem and the information that we know is standard for each diamond. We also reviewed ratios and proportions. READ MORE

4 days ago Periods 2 and 3 Today we worked on using the Pythagorean Theorem to find distances on a baseball diamond. This fits in with our knowledge of right triangles and the relationships between the legs and the hypotenuse. Students were able to determine the distance from home plate to second base and from the pitcher's mound to second base. READ MORE

5 days ago Periods 2 and 3 Continuing our work with Pythagorean Theorem and, therefore, with square root, we watched another BrainPop movie to start class. This one was on square roots. This time students independently completed the quiz that is given at the end of the movie and sent the score to my inbox. They were allowed to watch the movie again if necessary before they began the quiz. READ MORE

6 days ago Periods 2 and 3 We watched the BrainPop movie on the Pythagorean Theorem today. We watched as a whole class, taking notes as we went. We also took the review quiz together to review what we learned in the movie. Finally, students worked on homework that was started last week. The movie helped to review some of the concepts we discussed in those assignments. Assignment: complete assignments that have been started. READ MORE

May 7, 2013 Today we continued our work on our Land Project. The presentation for it is on Friday. Students are working on incorporating technology into the scripts they have written on the topic they have chosen. Students have researched landslides, sinkholes, the Sumatran rainforest, edible weeds, genetically modified foods, to name just a few. All of the topics relate to land and how we are using it and sometimes harming it. READ MORE

Video on 10.3--Solve Quadratic Equations by Graphing

Apr 24, 2013 Take these as Cornell notes. In your toolbox you should have the words that are listed on the video. You may include examples in your notes. We will add examples to the notes in class.

Video on 10.2--Graphing y = ax^2 + bx + c

Apr 23, 2013 This video may be used to take notes on section 10.2. It shows what is meant by the kind of parabolas we will be graphing and formulas you will need to find both the axis of symmetry and the vertex. It will also show how to make a table and compute y- values when you are given x values.

Apr 23, 2013 Today all 7th graders participated in activities to help us celebrate Earth Day and month. We did an extinction simulation game to show how decreasing habitat size results in decreased populations of animals. This in turn affects other animals that are either the prey or food for other animals. We also watched a video on endangered animals and did activities based on research about those animals.
