Periods 2 and 3

"I can explore my math book—Accentuate the Negative(ATN)."

Today students were given their new books. This book is on integers and rational numbers. We will be discussing the changes we need to make when adding and subtracting numbers that are positive and negative and the rules we need for multiplying and dividing those same kinds of numbers.
We started a scavenger hunt in class that is designed to explore the book. This is due on Thursday.
Assignment: finish scavenger hunt. (due Thursday)

Periods 4 and 5

"I can use tables and graphs to write functions."

We discussed more the similarities between expressions, equations, and inequalities. We also went over the definitions again for domain and range.
Discussing how we can use the domain and a given function to find the range led us to discussing how we can use a table to find the function. It is all about the relationship that we see.
We will continue this tomorrow when we add graphs to the discussion and how we can write ordered pairs using points we are given.
Assignment: in a new and creative way, develop a new representation for PEMDAS.
