Periods 2 and 3
We discussed unit rates some more. This led us into the work we are going to do with equivalent ratios. Equivalent ratios can be thought of as equivalent fractions since the process for solving them is the same. Ratios are usually a part-to-part relationship while fractions are part-to-whole. The process for finding equivalent ones is the same. Two equivalent ratios form a proportion.
The two ways to solve proportions are equivalent ratios and cross-product.
We started to talk about cross-product. Cross-product is a way to solve proportions in which the numerator of one ratio is multiplied by the denominator of the other and vice versa. Because they need to be equivalent, two resulting products are equivalent.
We will continue this on Thursday.
Assignment: finish #6-10 on unit rate worksheet.
Periods 4 and 5
We did not meet today because we began our work in Legends groups. We will meet tomorrow. Please be sure to have your homework complete. Check Monday's homework calendar.
