Periods 2 and 3
Today we worked more on probability and expected value.
We found the probability for different situations and then used those probabilities to find the expected values for those circumstances.
We will complete this tomorrow and conclude our work on probability.
Assignment: finish E from notes.

Period 4
We started work on using substitution to solve linear systems.
This is involves first writing an equation in terms of one of the variables. Once we do that we need to substitute the expression in place of the variable. We solved the equation and then used that variable solution to find the other variable.
The solution is an ordered pair and represents the point of intersection. We will continue this tomorrow.
Assignment: p. 439, #3-8

Period 5
Continuing our work with exponents we jumped ahead to Chapter 9. This chapter is on polynomials. We began by defining monomials and polynomials. We also talked about how to determine the degree of the polynomials. The degree depends on the degree of the highest monomial in the polynomial. For example, if the polynomial is 3x^4 + 5x6^3 + 9x - 6, the degree would be 4 because the highest exponent of a variable is 4. We also revisited combining like terms. This is something that we will need when we add and subtract polynomials tomorrow.
