Periods 2, 3 and 4
Today we took an online test called SMI. It is an inventory of math skills. Because it is untimed and students are allowed as much time as they need, this was our work for the day.
Many students showed significant progress from the last time we did this in January.
Period 4
Once students completed the SMI test, they were to continuing working the project/assessment was started on Tuesday. Students are to choose one problem from ten different sets of problems. These represent the work we have been doing in this chapter. Since they may choose the problems from each set and solve them, it is expected that these problems will be complete.
Following that is a MINIMUM one-page summary of the work and concepts we have done in this chapter. This is to reflect higher level thinking, with students making connections from one concept to the other. This is due on Monday.
Assignment: complete problems and summary.
Period 5
We discussed how to factor completely today. We have been factoring completely for most of this chapter. We discussed that factoring completely means we have a product of two unfactorable polynomials with integer coefficients. We reviewed that and added grouping as a way to factor a four-term polynomial. In these cases, the distributive property is used.
We will continue this on Monday.
We also continued work on the problems and summary that we have been working on and that will be due on Monday.
Assignment: complete chapter 9 problems and summary.
