Periods 2 and 3
Our daily problem today was going over last night's homework to make sure everyone can use the Pythagorean Theorem. We corrected any errors and answered any questions.
We then continued our work with the Pythagorean Theorem by watching the BrainPop movie on it. Students also took the quiz on it and completed a vocabulary sheet that once again reviewed the important terms needed when discussing the Pythagorean Theorem.
Finally, using the FYI section of the movie, students chose one of the topics, read it, and then wrote 4 facts from that section. They were able to gain extra credit points by reading more and adding more points. (Up to six extra.) Here at LMS we are responding to text in all subject areas.
Assignment: complete Pythagorean Theorem worksheet started yesterday and any assignment started today in class.

Period 4
We started class today with student, in pairs, writing their solutions for one of the problems that were on last night's homework. Once that was complete, they explained the strategy and solution to the rest of their tables.
Finally, we discussed how to use FOIL to multiply polynomials. FOIL stands for first, outer, inner, last and stands for the position of terms when we are multiplying two binomials.
Assignment: finish 9.2A

Period 5
We completed our work on using square roots to solve quadratic equations. We have linked this to graphs and how the solution are where the parabola crosses the x-axis. As was stated yesterday, we found that there can be two solutions, one solution, or no solutions. The graphs illustrated for us visually why this was true. The solutions we got when we found the square roots confirmed what we saw in the graphs.
