Periods 2 and 3
We discussed Problem 1.2 today. It is on making rectangular boxes. We talked about the dimensions for the box and what the faces would look like when we made a net of the box. This led to finding the area for each face and talking about how the sum of the areas of each individual face also equaled the number of squares that were in the net we drew. We also discussed how many cubes would fit in the box and whether turning it would make a difference in the number of cubes that could be put in it.
This is going to eventually lead to a discussion of volume.
Assignment: p. 10, #5-7, #19-24.
Periods 4 and 5
Continuing our discussion about writing linear equations in slope intercept form, we used graphs of lines to find the slope of the line. We did this by starting with the y-intercept and then counting up or down (the rise) and then left or right (the run) to another point on the line. This gives the slope.
Knowing this and the y-intercept we are able to write the equation.
We also talked about we can use two points to find the slope of a line.
