October 23, 2008

Our IMSA field trip to the Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium was outstanding. Our IMSA students learned a great deal and had a wonderful time exploring the different galleries and exhibits. We were able to talk to an astronomer about research that is being done both in Chicago and Arizona.

Period 2 and Period 3
We worked on our project on linear equations for the first part of class and then discussed how to identify parallel lines. We had two groups of equations. In each group the coefficient of x was the same. This means that the slope of all these lines is the same. When the slope of the lines is the same the lines are parallel. We will continue this discussion tomorrow.
Assignment:none

Period 4
We talked about how to decide if an equation has one solution, no solution, or an infinite number of solutions.
Most of the equations that we will deal with have one solution. Sometimes, however, equations will have no solution or any number will be a solution.
We worked on finding when this is true.
We started some problems in class and will continue this tomorrow.
Assignment: none

Period 5
Today we talked about two different topics. First, we discussed how to decide if equations have one, no, or an infinite number of solutions. We spent some time practicing how to solve equations to tell this.
We then started to talk about the percent proportion and the percent equation. These are two different ways to find the solution to a problem with dealing with percent.
Assignment: none

Period 6
Because this was the last class for this quarter, we spent time getting all assignments turned in.
Our first lesson for 2nd quarter will be on transformations.
