Student Support News For January

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We begin 2012 with the 1st and 2nd Grades continuing in our Lion's Quest Units with "Growing As A Group" as our theme. We will be focusing on the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile Attributes and Learner Attitudes which heartily support the character education promoted in Lion's Quest. Check the Iles Student Support web site regularly for videos and songs students compose and record as they learn the concepts and practices. The most recent is from Ms. Reynolds class. Check it out!
As I remind my students, it's one thing to know them in our heads, and another to practice them! The real "test" if your child is learning in Student Support class happens on the playground, the bus, the restroom and cafeteria and even at home!

3-5th Grades will be doing the same unit with the I. B. Attitudes and Attributes, but we will be focusing on our inner dialogues. Each human has repetitive thought "program loops" running constantly in our minds. We will begin to connect our thought/feeling/doing habits and how they effect our moods, behavior, and character. Iles Me to We Club will soon be ordering our FAIR TRADE STORE inventory. This is a student designed and student run business, which teaches students a variety of skills while helping promote our Free the Children efforts in East Asia. It also helps those 3rd world artisans and their families. This year, we will add a web based component, so you can see our store items from the convenience of your own home!

Iles is such a wonderful place to learn and grow. I look forward to many adventures in learning in 2012!
