7th Grade Exploratory French Course Description

This course, which meets every other day for 1 quarter, (approximately 20 class sessions), is designed to:
- create an awareness of language as a vehicle for communication
- introduce the functional purpose of language study
- present the sound system of another language
- present functional vocabulary and phrases
- instill an appreciation of other people and cultures
- provide motivation to continue learning another language
One of the main goals of the course will be to provide students a chance to hear the sounds of French and become familiar with some basic spoken French. This will include greeting people and saying goodbye, asking people how they are doing and answering in return, counting, naming the days of the week, the months, weather and other useful, basic vocabulary items. We will explore the rich cultural diversities of the Francophone world.
By using various computer resources, internet, videos, sound recordings, pencil/paper, visual props, and realia as well as other resources, students will be involved in a variety of multi-sensory, “fun” activities that will promote language acquisition. These activities will take place in large group, small group, pair and independent situations.
