Lola Loves Stories
Feb 7, 2013 This week our class responded to the book "Lola Loves Stories" by Anna McQuinn. The story is about a girl who goes to the library to get books, and her parents read them to her. She then pretends to be the characters from the story. Prompt: How does Lola feel about books? Does she like them? How do you know?
The Best Pet of All
May 25, 2012 This week the students listened to the story "A Dragon Moves In" at the Listening Center. They also heard the read aloud "The Best Pet of All" by David LaRochelle. This story is about a boy who wants a dog for a pet, but his mom says no, so he gets a dragon instead. It doesn't work out so well! The students really enjoyed the story, so today we responded to the question: Would you want a dragon for a pet? Why or why not?3 Little Pigs
May 17, 2012 This week the students listened to the story "The Three Little Pigs" and "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs". Mrs. Kapnick's class also came and performed the reader's theater for us! Today we drew pictures of the house we would build for ourselves. What type of house would you build if you were one of the pigs? Why?
My Garden
May 10, 2012 This week the students listened to the story "My Garden" by Kevin Henkes. The story is about a little girl that helps her mother in the garden and then dreams up fanciful things that she would have in her own garden. Our class responded in our notebooks: "What would you have in YOUR garden?"
Field Trip
Oct 27, 2009 Today we went on a field trip to Lincoln Memorial Gardens. We learned about three different types of ecosystems. We got a chance to see a prairie grassland on our nature hike. Some of us also got to see some birds and other wildlife. The thing I most enjoyed today was getting to walk through the quiet forest. The Gardens are generally a very peaceful place - I would love to go back there by myself and just take a walk and enjoy the quiet. READ MOREPredicting

In the next few weeks we will be wrapping up the book, and this seems like a good place to stop and think about this story will be resolved at the end. Think about the following questions: Who do you think is the real Lightning Thief? Why did they take it? Who might be the "friend who will betray" Percy? Post your comment and tell me what you think!
The Lightning Thief
Aug 19, 2009 This month for our read aloud, we have been experiencing Rick Riordan's "The Lightning Thief". It is an awesome book about a troubled young boy that finds out he is really a demigod; his father is a famous god from the Greek myths. In fact, those gods never really went away, and they are still around and ruling from their thrones on Mt. READ MOREDifferent Journeys
Aug 13, 2009 Recently our class has been reading two stories about very different journeys. The first story, 'Akiak', was about a sled dog who was leading a team in a race. The story took place in Alaska. This week, we've been reading 'Grandfather's Journey', which is about a man who takes a journey to explore the homelands of his grandfather. This story takes place in Japan and California. READ MOREGo to Archive
