Summer Reading Log
Summer vacation is here!! Children and their weary parents are dreaming of long summer evenings free of homework. What a relief it will be to put those books in the drawer or on the shelf and leave them there for a few months! Right? Wrong!
The research is clear that children who do not read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect.
Please encourage your student to "Read 1000 or more" pages this summer. The literacy goal is mandatory and students will receive a grade from their language arts teacher in the fall. Simply print the reading log (on my homepage), keep a virtual log http://www.springfield.k12.il.us/read5/ or create your own and let the reading begin.
