Today we discussed how the Louisiana Purchase played a huge role in world politics. Here is the timeline -

1. Napoleon Buonaparte is conquering Europe but is running out of money
2. Napoleon sells the Louisiana Purchase to Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the US
3. Napoleon has plenty of money now. He starts attacking other countries like England
4. England is running out of men for the army so they kidnap American sailors and force them into the British Navy. This is called impressment.
5. President Madison tells England to stop. They don't.
6. The War of 1812 starts.
7. Andrew Jackson becomes a war hero and then our 7th president.
8. Andrew Jackson starts the Trail of Tears sending Native Americans to Oklahoma, the Indian Territory.
