Literature Book Online
One of the great features of our literature book is that students have access to the book online. This will be very helpful when the students have an assignment in the literature book. You will find the directions for the Holt website attached.
Language Arts Policies
In order for students to get the most out of their time in the classroom, it is very important for students to follow the procedures listed below.
Tardy: You need to be in your seat when the bell rings. If you are not, you will receive a lunch detention. This is a school wide policy.
Tones and Bells: When the tone or bell rings at the end of the period, remain seated. You will be dismissed by me.
Bathroom: You will be given 3 passes each quarter. You will need to sign out on the clipboard when you go to the restroom or your locker. After you have used all three of your passes you will owe me minutes the next day at lunch.
Class time: You are expected to remain seated during class instruction. Please do not leave your seat without permission.
Homework: Homework will be collected at the beginning of each class period. If you do not have your homework on the day that it is due, you will need to turn it in the next day for 1/2 credit.
Absences: After returning from an absence, please go directly to the designated area to check the homework given. Then go to the homework folder for your class to obtain any notes or worksheets handed out on that day(s). You will have 2 days to turn in the assignment given on the day of your absence. YOU must see me if you have any questions! All absent work needs to be turned in to the basket. I will not ask for these assignments. It is your responsibility to turn them in. Not turning them in on time will result in a zero for each assignment.
Attention Grabber: If you are working in groups or teams and you hear the bell, you should immediately stop talking and look at me for directions. Students who continue to talk after the bell will receive a verbal warning.
Teacher Instruction: If I am talking, you should be sitting quietly, LISTENING. I will tell you when it is time to work together.
Student Responsibilities: When working with a team, you should always do your part and participate in the activity. You should be helpful and respectful to your peers and your teacher.
Entering Room: You are not to enter the room unless a teacher is inside.
Collecting Homework: When an assignment is collected, please make sure your name and date is noted in the upper right hand corner of the paper. Then place your paper in the designated paper tray for your class. I will then collect the papers.
Preparation: Please come to class prepared for the day. Please make sure you come to class with all necessary materials. If you are missing any supplies, please check with a friend before asking me. If you must return to your locker, you will need to use one of your passes. If you do not have a pass you will be allowed to go to your locker, but you will owe me minutes the next day at lunch.
Parent / Teacher Communication
It is very important for parents and teachers to communicate throughout the school year. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have a question or concern, or simply want to know how your child is doing at school. The best way to contact me is through email. My email address is in the left column on my webpage. You will get the quickest response if you contact me through email. If you prefer to talk to me on the phone, I will either be free to talk 5th hour each day or at the end of the day. This will vary each day as one hour will be my prep, and the other hour I will be providing technology support to other staff members. If I am in class when you call just leave a message with the office and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you prefer to meet in person, just let me know and we can schedule a time that works for both of us. I look forward to working with your child this year!
