Making Donuts!

May 13, 2010 We incorporated cooking into our math time! We discussed fractions, measurement, cooking time, temperature, and portion planning during our interactive math activity. We used biscuit dough to make our own donut puffs then we rolled the donuts in sugar and cinnamon before devouring them all!

Reader's Theatre

May 13, 2010 Please check out our pictures on the school website! We used our guided reading time to practice and perform a Reader's Theatre to our friends! Mrs. Passmore's group performed "How To Eat Fried Worms," and Mrs. Bluhm's group performed "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Who knew fluency practice could be so fun?

Feb 1, 2010 Our class read the book, THUNDER CAKE by Patricia Polacco, and then made a real thunder cake to eat! We had so much fun! Please check out our photos in the Wilcox photo gallery.

Celebrate Constitution Day!

Sep 17, 2009 We spent time learning about the history of our government in honor of Constitution Day. We learned about the authors of the Constitution, disussed why the Constitution was written, and what the Constitution does for us today. The students enjoyed reading about our country and learned a lot of new vocabulary. Ask your child if they can explain the following terms: right, law, author, president, congress, judge, and freedom.

Reading Logs

Sep 17, 2009 I have included a reading log in the yellow take home folder -- you will find it secured in the folder behind the behavior calendar. Each week I will be sending home books at the appropriate reading level for your child. Please read these books with your child and sign the sheet as you complete each book. We are finally beginning to settle in!

Sep 14, 2009 Parents, All is running smoothly in room #137! We are now used to the daily schedule of school and are getting used to producing quality work! Please continue to check the yellow homework folder each night for assignments that need to be completed.

School will be back in session soon!

Aug 9, 2009 Yes...summer vacation is quickly comming to an end, and that means that school will be back in session before we know it! I look forward to starting a new year at Wilcox. I am always excited to see who walks through my classroom door on that first day of school! Don't forget that registration is this Monday, August 10th! I can't wait to see you all!
