Community Building

Once again this year, all schools are coming together for the benefit of the Springfield community.

The 13th annual Spirit of Giving fundraising effort will be ongoing at City Tournament.  Lanphier, Southeast and Springfield High Schools, along with Sacred Heart-Griffin, are all working together to top last year’s total with a goal of $18,000 of cash and food donations, which would provide meals for 450 local families for two months. Additionally, all District 186 schools have been invited to participate in the fundraiser for the fifth year. Community members are encouraged to donate money and non-perishable food items and can bring their contributions to the BOS Center during the tournament.

The fifth annual Unity Day also takes place on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the Mezzanine level of BOS Center. Superintendent’s Student Roundtable members from Lanphier, Southeast and Springfield organized the event and have invited all other high schools in the city to participate. The event was initially established for all city high schools to come together and learn about each other, and a service component has been added. This year, they’ve also raised money to support a local bone marrow transplant recipient and will complete service hours at Hope Institute. They will also be participating in ice breakers and other activities at the event. Springfield Public Schools Foundation sponsors this event.
