Today is National Census Day! If you have not yet done so, please complete your Census online at www.my2020census.gov or by phone at 1-844-330-2020. You must have your Census ID, which was mailed to each household by the U.S. Census Bureau. If you prefer to complete a paper Census, they will be mailed out mid-April to those who have not yet responded. Now may be a perfect opportunity to learn with your students about the Census and even have them go through it with you as you complete it. There are also a lot of educational resources available at https://2020census.gov/en/educators.html for all grade levels. Your student’s teacher(s) may have also provided activities related to the Census.
The 2020 Census data will be used to determine how billions of dollars are allocated to states and communities over the next 10 years. We want to be sure that everyone in Springfield is counted so that all of our students and families continue to receive the important services that help them grow and thrive. Please complete your Census as soon as possible so that the needs of our community are accurately reflected.
During our upcoming Spring Break, our meal distribution will be paused so that our food service workers can observe the break with the rest of the District. Tomorrow, we will be providing some additional information on how our community partners are helping us fill the gaps until we resume our meal distribution.
We are finalizing our Remote Learning Plan that is required by the Illinois State Board of Education. This plan will hopefully address many lingering questions you may have about your student’s learning and progress. We have every intention of ensuring that no student is penalized for these circumstances that are out of everyone’s control. The Governor has stated that our best response must be empathy and we continue to lead with that in mind. We will have more details on our plan once we resume home-based learning following Spring Break.
