It’s hard to believe the 2020 National Census Day was just a few weeks ago. We want to remind you of the importance of completing the census and help you feel confident in knowing that your answers are safe, secure and protected by Federal Law.
For our families and parents who have completed the census we want to thank you and for those who haven’t due to our new society norms of social distancing while sheltering in place, or perhaps you’re busy helping your child with remote learning at home or maybe you’re an essential worker (and for that we thank you) please note, it’s not too late and your response matters. You can complete the census online at www.my2020census.gov or by calling 1-844-330-2020. You must have your Census ID, which was mailed to each household by the U.S. Census Bureau between March 12-20. If you prefer to complete a paper Census, please note they will be mailed to those who have not yet responded.
The Illinois State Board of Education shared today that 48 percent of Illinoisans still need to respond.
If you have any questions, you can check out ISBE’s podcast, which can also help your students learn this important lesson in civics. Illinois’ number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, Electoral College votes, and certain federal funding streams including billions of dollars allocated to states over the next 10 years, all depend on everyone getting counted.
We want to be sure that everyone in Springfield is counted so that all of our students and families continue to receive the important services that help them grow and thrive. Please complete your Census as soon as possible so that the needs of our community are accurately reflected.
Remember, everybody Counts and your input is important.
