Change in Technology Return Date for Summer University
Good Morning Parents/Guardians,
I apologize, but I didn't realize that Friday, July 3rd was a holiday for most people including our custodial staff for the district which means that the buildings will not be open for technology return.
Instead, we will start technology return on Tuesday, June 30 until 2pm.
Updated Technology Return Times and Dates:
Tuesday, June 30: 11am-2pm
Wednesday, July 1: 8am-2pm
Thursday, July 2: 8am-2pm
Please return to Grant Middle School: 1800 W. Monroe
Don't forget your masks, hotspots, and charging cords!

Here is what was discussed during these meetings if you happen to miss one of them:
-Technology return times and dates : July 1-3 8am-2pm at Grant Middle School 1800 W Monroe (1 person in the building only and please wear a mask-don't forget your chromebook cord).
-Finishing the last week strong! Students will assess in math on Thursday and ELA on Friday.
-Students have been working on a college or career project and they will present these on Monday and Tuesday of next week to finish out the program.

Summer University Acceptances
Please make sure that email is checked regularly, as that will be the main line of communication for Summer University updates.
Summer University Acceptance emails are sent daily as students continue to register. Email correspondance is sent to the email address that you submitted on the registration form.
What is Summer University?
This year Summer University is open to all current 6th and 7th grade students in District 186. Students will be focusing on math, english language arts and various AVID strategies for the 4 weeks of the program.
Dates are June 1-June 30. Students are expected to log into daily Zoom meetings online from 9am-11am for instruction.
Math topics covered (based on grade level) include ratios(7), rates (7), solving equations (8) and integers (8). Accelerated math courses: Alg 1- solving equations with rational numbers and writing linear equations. Alg 2: will work on factoring and solving quadratics.
For ELA both 7th and 8th grade Summer University students will focus on identifying the central idea(s) of a text, supporting thinking with evidence, as well as analyzing text for meaning and making connections.
Please fill out a registration form (to the left in teal) and you will be contacted if your child is accepted. Spots are limited! If you are accepted, you will be able to keep your district technology to use throughout the summer program.

Xtreme Summer Academy 2018
The District 186 Xtreme Summer Academy is a Title I Program for incoming 6th through 8th grade students from Title I schools that are recommended to the program based on their academic data. Students are only able to attend if they were invited and registered for the program.
Xtreme Summer Academy will be held at Feitshans Elementary School 1101 South 15th Street. Springfield, IL 62703 (217) 525-3030
Family Kick-off Event: Friday, June 15th from 5pm -7pm
2018 Program Dates: Monday, June 18 through Wednesday, July 11, 2018
July 4th and 5th- NO SCHOOL
Daily Student Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
*Breakfast and lunch will be provided to students in attendance.
A Family Affair
Join us tonight (6/13) from 5:30-7:00 at Feitshans for our Family Affair Event. Students and their families are invited for a night of playing games, winning prizes, browzing the book fair, and eating a variety of fair food.
Extreme Summer Academy 2017 Information
The District 186 Xtreme Summer Academy program is a Title I Program for 6th and 7th grade students that are recommended to the program based on their academic data. STEM Day & Xtreme Awards
On June 2, students will be showcasing their final STEM projects. Xtreme awards will also be given out to celebrate our students accomplishments. Please join us at the following times:

Family Freak Night will be June 26 from 5-7:30 PM. We will have fun activities, a light dinner, and a preview into what happens next in the Freak the Mighty saga.
