The Homecoming Dance is this Saturday, October 3rd at SHS from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Students will not be admitted after 8:00 p.m. Students will enter through security at the main doors off Lewis Street. Tickets are $15 per person. All students will pass through metal detectors and a bag search for entry. If a SHS student is bringing an outside guest, the proper guest form must be filled out in its entirety and returned to the Guidance Office by Thursday, October 1st at 3:30 p.m. Late forms are not accepted. Guest forms are available in the Guidance Office. All guests must have valid picture identification. No exceptions will be made on the form or guest IDs in the name of safety and security. Guests must arrive/leave and stay with their SHS student at all times.
Students on both lunch shifts - you may not bring any computer bags or trapper like binders into the cafeteria while getting your hot lunch. You can leave computer bags in your locker or outside the cafeteria while you get your lunch.
*PSAT/NMSQT sign-up is now available in the Guidance Office. The PSAT/NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for Juniors; however, freshmen and Sophomores can also take the exam. The due date to sign up is October 1st. The cost is $18 and can be paid with cash or check. The test date is Tuesday, October 20th. Any questions? Email Mr. Robinson rrobinson@sps186.org
Any junior or senior who is interested in working at an election site on November 3rd from 6am to 7pm, please see Mr. Lightfoot for an application and details. To apply, you must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and parent permission.
Seniors and Juniors - college rep visit season is upon us. Check Canvas announcements and the college visits tab for info about who is coming and when they are. This week, 3 visits are scheduled, and more will make their way to SHS in the coming weeks. See Canvas for more info or ask Kramer.
Tuesday evening, we will host our yearly Solon Olympics, where classes compete in a series of games to see who is the best at SHS. Friday evening, we have our tailgate before the game, followed by the football game against Quincy Notre Dame. We culminate with the dance Saturday evening! Be sure to participate and get as involved as possible all week to make it the best experience we can. You know who has school spirit? Matt Murphy! We are all lucky to be in this building with him. Such poise and grace. Be like Matt!
Tuesday is Opposites Attract - Find a friend and dress like opposite things, or on your own dress partially one thing and partially its opposite.
Wednesday is Wrong Place, Wrong Time - Come dressed for any other event that isn't scheduled for today - be ready four your game, for prom, for anything!

12th: wear white or togaHomecoming week is here, and the next few tasks are before us. First, Homecoming Court nominations are open on Canvas. They close at 11:59 PM. You can nominate ANYONE from your grade to be on court, and there is no formal running process. Nominate who you think is a great rep of your class, Springfield High, and beyond.
Solon Olympics is the best night of the year. Come out and watch all four classes compete against each other in dodgeball, pyramid building, tug of war, volleyball and more. Let's pack the Aux gym tomorrow evening from 7-9 pm to help build Homecoming spirit.

Congratulations to the Lady Senators volleyball team for winning back to back city titles. The Senators beat SHG in front of the greatest student body in the state by the scores of 28-26 21-25 & came back from a 21-23 deficit to win to championship 25-23 This was truly a team effort, everyone gave a 110% to get the victory. The Senators are now 16-4 overall & 7-0 in conference play. Great job ladies!!
The boys golf team took 2nd place in the Sangamon County Tournament this weekend. The Senators defeated Glenwood, Rochester, Williamsville and SE/Lanphier and missed 1st place by 4 shots. Jude O’Brien led the way with a 76 earning a 5th place medal. Connor Borah took 7th and a medal with a 78. Trevor Hoffman added a 79 with a 9th place finish while also earning a top ten medal. Carter Borah rounded out the scores with an 81 and a 15th place finish. Congrats to the boys golf team.
The cross country team hosted the SHS Invite on Saturday at Lincoln Park. The JV girls were led by Charlotte Kirchoff. The Varsity girls finished 9th overall and were led by Melody Guardia. The JV boys were led by the first place finish of Felix Vanmetre. The Fresh/soph boys finished 5th overall led by Shrihan Aleti. The Varsity boys finished 8th overall led once again by Collin Nolte. The teams next compete on Saturday at Peoria High and Jacksonville.
The Springfield High School Girls Tennis Team competed in the Central Illinois Invitational this past weekend. Congratulations on their team and individual performances. Zoey Thongsithavong finished in third place at first singles while the doubles team of Madisyn Williams and London Thongsithavong also claimed a third place finish at first doubles. The team of Grace Cosenza-Stanley and Abigail Eldridge placed fourth at second doubles, and Priya Sumant finished in fifth place at second singles.
And belated congratulations to the doubles team of Loey Fretz and Abigail Eldridge on their win against Sacred Heart-Griffin last week. Good job by everyone!
The girls swimming and diving team defeated Glenwood and SHG on Saturday with a score of Springfield 175, Glenwood 84, and SHG 13. Chloe Scheffler took first in the 50 free and 500 free; Natasha O'Brien took first in the 100 breaststroke; Emma Herrin took first in the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle. Charlotte Affrunti took first in diving. Elle Milliman took first in the 100 backstroke. The team will take on Porta tonight at Eisenhower Pool at 4:00.
