Special Needs Social Club

There are a number of exciting events coming up in the district and our community.  Details are below, and flyers are attached if available.  As always, please feel free to contact Mary Wyman the district's Parent Mentor if you have any questions.  You can reach Mary at 217-525-3060.


Survey to Re-Brand D2P Conference: We are excited to announce that we are working on re-branding the annual conference.  In an effort to help us stay current and fresh please take a few moments and answer these questions.  Deadline to complete survey is Friday, October 26th.  


What: Special Needs Social Club (Flyer attached)

When: Tuesday, October 23, 2018 / 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Where: Erin's Pavilion, 4965 S. 2nd Street, Springfield, IL

Details: A pizza dinner will be served to students and their families.  The students will play bingo, win prizes and play games.  While the students have fun the parents will have an interactive session around the topic of transition to adulthood and post high school challenges.  If parents have any specific questions they can submit them to Mary Wyman ahead of time.  

Goal: The goal of the Special Needs Social Club is for students with disabilities age 5-21 to cultivate friendships, foster peer relationships and work to develop social skills.  


What: The League of Women Voters is hosting a "Wine and Wisdom" get-together.

When: Wednesday, October 24, 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Where: It's All About Wine, 1305 Wabash Ave.

Details: I am sharing this event as a courtesy to the League of Women Voters.  This event is focused on education and their guest for the evening is Jeff Vose, Regional Superintendent of Schools.  No need to RSVP.


What: Parent/F.A.C.E Leadership Summit 

When: Three Part Series - October 30; November 13; and November 27, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Where: 1900 W. Monroe, Board Room

Details: Please see attached flyer.  This dynamic series is designed to help prepare and empower you to successfully serve on a group.

What: Student Support Services Open House

When: Thursday, November 8, 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Where: Location to be determined

Details: This is an opportunity to meet and greet our new Director of Student Support Services and Special Education, Supervisors, and other Leadership within special education.


What: "What Comes Next?" Transition Fair

When: Saturday, November 17, 2018, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  No need to RSVP as this is an Open House Style Event
