As we approach our 300-step celebrations, we highlight Mrs. Johannes and Ms. Mathenia intervention block students who moved from blue to red levels in our IRLA program and celebrated with a RED PARTY! The Independent Reading Level Assessment Framework is a formative assessment for reading that allows teachers to track progress in real time.  Students can verbalize their learning goals and are motivated to reach them.

Today, with the help of our friend at Horace Mann, we celebrated Miss Rosie with the Mugs and Kisses Award.  She has given many years to keeping our students safe on the playground and has been a grandma and friend to our students and staff.  We want her to know how much she is loved and appreciated.

Thank you, Miss Rosie!

On Wednesday, October 2nd, students participated in a camping-themed 100 Step Celebration.  Ball Charter students are committed to reading 4 steps every weekday and one step on the weekend.  By September 30th, students already reached 100 steps/1500 minutes.  They enjoyed a beautiful afternoon walking the Ball Charter trail (thank you to our PTO), eating granola bars, and listening to our guest banjo player, Blake Martin.

Ball Charter students enjoyed a wonderfully informative and engaging visit from local beekeeper, Gil Opferman, who provided facts, pictures, and actual bees for the crowd.  The students were able to see the bees up close in a protective box and even taste honey made from the bees.  His stories were interesting and humorous as the students learned all about the hive. Mr. Opferman is a retired principal who also has interests in gardening and participates extensively in local theatre.
