Civil War Heroes and Heroines Living Museum
7th and 8th grade students have been working hard researching and writing about a hero or heroine of the civil war. We have an upcom-ing event called the Living Museum where students become their hero or heroine.
Everyone is welcome to attend!
There are two opportunities for students to share their learning.
1/12 From 6-7 pm students will be in the gym and able to earn Wax Museum extra credit by coming and sharing their learning during the open house. Students who want to just stay after school they are welcome. If they bring $2 we will order pizza to eat after school. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to be able to see your stu-dent and others bring civil war heroes and heroines to life. It is also great practice for before the school wide museum.
1/13 Heroes and Heroines Wax Museum from 9:45-11:45 in the gym. The school and community are welcome to attend.
Young Americans are coming to Springfield
The Young American workshop is held for District 186 just once every three years, and will be hosted for District 186 January 15-17th at Springfield High School!
Your student will have the opportunity to spend three days with the Young Americans who have traveled the world.
District 186 students have the opportunity to expand their talents and knowledge in voice, dance, songwriting, acting and performance. The Young Americans encourage every student to become more confident in who they are and in what they would like to become. The three day workshop culminates in a 2 hour show on Tuesday evening. The workshop is held Sunday afternoon, all day Monday and Tuesday after school into the evening at Springfield High School. Details are below:
Here is the link for registration for the Young American Workshop January 15-17th, 2017
https://reg.youngamericans.org/Registration/Event/24418415657C49C58A12C45F9852637B
The Young Americans inspire the world through music with their captivating performances,
signature youth programs, and performing arts college.
Our students have the opportunity to perform with the international cast, The Young Americans, on JANUARY 15-17. This music, dance, and performance workshop & final performances are for students 3rd-12th.
Thank You to our Supporters :
• Country Music Association Foundation, Dance Excellence Festival
• Make a Wish, iHeart Radio & KISS FM Los Angeles
• Jason Mraz, Paramore, Walk the Moon, Barry Manilow
This Signature Workshop & Show brings to you an incredible combination of high-energy, team-building, confidence boosting FUN! Using music as the tool, this cast of specially trained college age performer/teachers provide a safe and fun atmosphere for your students to learn, explore, create, and GROW!
Grades 3 to 12: Unlike almost every other music performance workshop, prior training and experience in singing, dancing and acting is not necessary. For those who are performing arts students, you're taken to a whole new level of excellence.
"The Young Americans, through my eyes, are a gateway to putting students on their path to personal expression."
Isabella, Grade 9 • Rapid City, SD
What can your students look forward to?
• Learn an hour long variety show in only two days!
Your students will be the ones in front singing, dancing, and performing the variety show and solos they’ve learned. In just the 2nd Act, we'll feature 60+ pieces of music from Broadway musicals, Justin TImberlake, Meghan Trainor, the movie Selma, Disney & more!
Every participant does not need previous training. We make sure students with training and without get the educational level they need to continue growing.
• Classes, Self-Confidence, & Leadership
In addition, the students will take classes in the areas of voice, dance, songwriting, performance (acting and improv). Throughout the entire three days, we’ll focus on the students as individuals. The goal, is to encourage every student we meet to become more confident in who they are and what they’d like to become. Music is our tool to reach a common ground between age groups, cultures, and peers.

Help Host two or more Young Americans in your home!
Like a foreign exchange program, The Young Americans stay in families of communities they visit all over the world. Their cast members are very respectful, outgoing, and just fun to be around. Time and time again, host families say the relationships that are made last a lifetime.
Families that host 2 or more of the cast members will receive two free tickets to the show in select seating as a thank you. (You don't need a student in the workshop in order to be a host family.)
• You can volunteer during the online registration process.
