Notes From The Student Support Leader:
Every two weeks I spend a half an hour in each classroom teaching and talking about various social skills. So far this year, we have talked about getting along with others, building a school community and growing up drug free. Currently we are focusing on being bully free and establishing appropriate boundaries. One of the techniques we teach is using an “I” Message. Instead of responding with anger we teach students to express themselves in a non-confrontational way by “using their words”. An example of this is:
1. I don’t like when you call me names.
2. Because it hurts my feelings.
3. Please don’t call me names.
Talk to your child about school. The more interest you show the more likely they are to let you know what’s happening!
