Red Ribbon Week Celebration Next Week (Oct. 24-28)

October 21, 2011

Why do we celebrate Red Ribbon Week?

In 1985 Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, of the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency was kidnapped and murdered by drug traffickers. People in his hometown were so upset they began wearing red ribbons to honor him. In 1988 the National Family Partnership adopted the Red Ribbon Celebration as an opportunity to educate individuals, families, and communities about the destructive effects of drugs.

Next week Dubois will be doing special activities to discourage drug use and promote healthy lifestyles and decisions. This should be a fun activity for the students and an opportunity for parents to talk to your kids!

• Monday- wear your shirt backwards to “Turn your back
on drugs”

• Tuesday- hat day to “use your thinking cap and don’t
do drugs”

• Wednesday- crazy socks (colorful or mismatched) to
“Sock it to Drugs”

• Thursday- sweats because living drug-free is “no

• Friday “ wear anything red, white, or blue to “elect not
to use drugs”
