Social Work News!

December 12, 2011

Typically December is a challenging month for students. They’re so excited about the holidays and break coming that they tend to “check out” early. We’ve decided to do a Teacher/Staff Auction this year to promote positive behavior. Many of the teacher’s and staff have donated their time on December 16th to do a special activity with the students. The catch is that the students have to “earn” tickets by displaying good behavior. Students will use the tickets to “vote” for the teacher and activity that they would enjoy most. The student with the most tickets in that teacher’s envelope will win the prize! The tickets will be counted after school on December 15th. Samples of the activities are board games, manicures, movie, basketball, a special lunch (McDonald’s, Pizza, or Jimmy John’s).

Our social skills lessons this month will focus on feelings. We will discuss different feelings and name them. I will teach that feelings are neither good nor bad but how we react to them can cause problems. We will discuss both verbal communication and body language. Finally we will work on some stress relief techniques. Remember this can be a stressful time for all of us! Blessings to you and your family this Holiday Season.
