Dear Families of Dubois:
I hope your winter break was restful and full of time with family and friends. As we begin the second semester of instruction, there are a few things I want you to be aware of that are important to our operation @ Dubois. First of all, we go outside unless the "feel like" temperature is below 20 degrees, so please dress your children warm. If you are in need of a coat or gloves, please let Carlis Thomas know and we will do what we can for them. Additionally, we have three main spots for lost and found and we encourage you to check it often.
The middle school deans will be visiting our 5th grade students this month to talk to them about options at middle schools. They will be given a course sheet, of which you will need to complete and sign and return to Dubois. We will then compile them all and send them to the appropriate middle schools. Additionally, students will be taking a standardized test (SMI) in January, to help determine the appropriate level of courses for math and reading in middle school.
Next, as you may know, we have not made AYP according to state standards for the last two years. As a staff we have been working hard on developing differentiated instruction for our students at their instructional level and providing interventions for those students who need additional help. That test (ISAT) will be administered the first part of March and we plan to have a few family events to help you understand the types of items that will be on that test. The first night will be Family Write NIght, which will be January 19th and then ISAT night on February 7th. We hope you can attend!
Lastly, the yearly kindergarten night for incoming kindergarten students will be held at Dubois on February 16th at 7:00. So if you know of any families that have children who will be 5 years old before September 1st, please let them know!
Thanks for your support!
Cindy J. Baugher, principal
