Dental Exams and Physicals
Dental exams for kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grade students are due May 15th. A dentist must have completed exams in the last 18 months. Proof of an appointment is acceptable. If you have not submitted a dental exam for your student, please call me at 525-3204.
If you have a child entering kindergarten, 6th or 9th grade in the fall, please call your doctor today to schedule an appointment for a physical examination. Waiting to schedule a physical may make it difficult to get an appointment before school starts. Students who are currently in the 5th grade and have had a recent physical are encouraged to bring completed physicals to me and I will file them in the student’s health folder. They will be forwarded to the child’s middle school before school starts in the fall.
Summer is fast approaching. Along with the fun associated with summer comes the risk for sunburn. Please remember to use sunscreen on your child before prolonged sun exposure. As well as being painful, sunburn increases the risk of certain skin conditions such as melanoma, a form of skin cancer.
You can protect your child from the dangerous rays of the sun. Liberal and frequent use of sunscreen is very important in prevention, even on cloudy days. Sunscreen should be reapplied at least every two hours because perspiration and water may wash away sunscreen and the protection it offers. Avoid being outdoors between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. whenever possible, because the sun’s rays are strongest during this time period. Wear clothing that protects you from exposure to the sun, including sunglasses and a broad brimmed hat.
Find a fun outdoor activity that your family can enjoy, but remember to take protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Have a safe and happy summer.
