As many of you know, we have seen an increase in Influenza Like Illness (ILI) at Dubois. If your child has a serious health condition such as asthma, diabetes, heart condition, etc. you may want to consult your doctor about obtaining the H1N1 vaccine for your child. Children with serious health conditions should seek medical care as soon as flu symptoms are detected and watch for emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention.

These warning signs include:

* Fast breathing or trouble breathing
* Bluish or gray skin color
* Not drinking enough fluids
* Not urinating or no tears when crying
* Severe or persistent vomiting
* Not waking up or not interacting
* Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
* Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
* Sudden dizziness
* Confusion
* Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and a worse cough

Consult http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/parents/ for more parent information regarding the H1N1 and Seasonal flu.

Remember - If your child needs to take medication at school, even over the counter medications, a doctor’s order and parent signature must be on file in the school office. Medications must be in the original container with a pharmacy label on all prescription medications. Also, if your child has a medical condition that might require emergency treatment, an emergency plan should be available. Please contact me for assistance in developing a plan for your child if one has not been written this school year.
