Springfield, IL, September 25, 2009 -
A third grade teacher at Dubois Elementary School is using her Friday lunch hour to teach parents. Sarah Robinson has created "Lunch Tools" an interactive experience for parents to learn more about their child's curriculum and daily classroom happenings. Parents are also guided through the library to learn how to choose the right book for their student. They are then shown how to instruct their child at home through basic reading and response methods.
"Lunch Tools" is held every other Friday, 11 - 11:30 a.m. at Dubois Elementary School. This innovative educational practice is designed to help families better connect with their child's learning environment - in order to help them succeed. Research shows that when parents are involved in children's schools and education, children have higher grades and standardized test scores, improved behavior at home and school, and better social skills and adaptation to school.
