Health Update

Many people have questions regarding the H1N1 flu virus. The symptoms are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Many people also have reported diarrhea and vomiting.

In order to keep your children healthy, we would like you to help teach them ways to prevent the spread of infection. The Illinois Department of Public Health is recommending the following guidelines:

COVER - Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you do not have a tissue available, cough into your elbow instead of your hand.
Clean - Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
Contain - If you are sick with a flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone. (Your fever should be gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine.) Stay away from others as much as possible in order to decrease the spread of the infection.

Practicing these tips at home, avoiding close contact with sick people and keeping your hands away from your nose, mouth and eyes will also help decrease the spread of infection. Please call for any questions.
