Morning Announcements 9/18/2020

September 18, 2020

Good Morning GMS students and staff and Welcome to another edition of the morning announcements. Guess who’s back? Back again… Hoffek’s back, go tell a friend! I’m Mr. Hood  this is Mr. Hoffek and we are coming straight at you from the GMS studios!

Today is Friday! September 18th. It is “Fun Fact Friday” where we give you some interesting facts… Today its all about our guy Ulysses S. Grant! Did you know that Ulysses was born in 1822 on April 27th. Ulysses is not even his first name! Its actually Hiram Ulysses Grant, and the S doesn’t stand for anything! He was the 18th president of the United States, and he passed away July 23rd in 1885.

Students with the last name A-K are asynchronous which means that they are logging into each class on Canvas and completing any work that has been assigned for today. Students with the last name L-Z, this is your day log into Canvas, click on the Zoom link and meet with your class face-to-face.

Remember, if something doesn’t work right or you can’t find an assignment, try again… If it still doesn’t work email your teacher your problem. Also, don’t forget that teachers have office hours from 1:45-2:45 each day.

Birthday wishes go out to Cheyanne J, Meara K, and Makiah H. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Now lets stand for the pledge of allegiance

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

You may be seated. Let us pause for a moment of silence. Use this time to personally reflect on ways you can be successful today.

Today’s weather includes mostly sunny skies, but its only supposed to get up to about 68 degrees, I think its almost time to bust out that favorite hoodie!

In sports, the Cubs had the night off and the Cardinals lost to the Pirates. The Cleveland Browns beat the Cincinnati Bengals during Thursday night football.

In NBA news, Miami has taken a 2-0 series lead against Boston. And on the women’s side Minnesota beat Phoenix while L A lost to Connecticut.

The cafeteria smells so good due to the apple cinnamon muffins they made for breakfast and I know what I’m eating for lunch! Buffalo chicken wraps! Sounds so good. Remember, breakfast and lunch can be picked up in the parking lot behind GMS or any school that is serving food, from 7:00-11:30. If you aren’t going to eat your food right away, be sure to store it in the fridge and then heat it up when you are ready to eat.

Don’t forget! 2019-2020 yearbooks are in! If you ordered a yearbook last year, come in to see Ms. Marsha to pick it up! If you didn’t order one, they being sold for $20 each.

And now for today’s Welcoming Ritual. I love to watch movies. What movie character would you want to be? How come? Teachers, give students the chance to share with the class and feel free to share your answer as well. I think I would want to be Hagrid from the Harry Potter movies. Mainly because of the awesome beard, but also because he does all that he can for the kids at the school.

And that my friends brings today’s announcements to an end. A big SHOUT OUT to Christina R. a new 6th grader. I know you’re listening! She came up to Grant yesterday with her mom to get things squared away so that she can be successful this year!

Until next time everyone, Work hard and be safe! Have a great weekend!
